• Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium. Located in the Brisbane Botanic Gardens, the planetarium honors the astronomical pioneer and one of the first explorers of the Southern Skies. A Scottish officer and explorer, he also gave the name to the city itself. Nowadays the planetarium features the impressive 12.5 meter diameter Cosmic Skydome as well as a number of exhibitions on the universe. • Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre. A convention center might not feature high on your to-see list, but the one in Brisbane has often been named the best in the world. • Wheel of Brisbane. Especially popular with families with children, this ferris wheel takes you to the height of 60 m (197 feet), providing great views of the city below. Located 67 km (41 mi) south of Brisbane, Tamborine can be reached in about one hour.
• Samford Valley. Having a surprisingly bucolic and remote feel despite being just a 30-minute drive from central Brisbane, Samford Valley is another popular day trip destination. It is indeed a long, though stunning, drive that needs to be planned in advance.
