In addition to forests and gardens, the park is known for its steep hillsides where colorful houses seem to be built on top of one another, as well as several lavish villas. The drive from Ciampino Airport takes only about 30 minutes.
- Anzio. Located on the Mediterranean coast, the city of Anzio has historically been known as one of the best places for seafood in this part of Italy. While that reputation remains thoroughly deserved, nowadays it is also a popular gateway to the surrounding beaches, as well as a jump-off point to several nearby islands. We spent most of our time in Italy in and Basilicata, which are primarily rural areas. This made driving easier with the midsized SUV we were driving. We loved spending time in a less travelled part of Italy. We stayed for a time in Lecce, enjoying the historic city center, plus spending a day in Gallipoli swimming in the crystal clear ocean water.
