Many roads on Reunion Island are narrow and very windy but the scenery is spectacular. The views are worth the drive to get to the top. Some of the beaches and rocky shorelines are great too.

I had a tiny car, a Renault Twingo, brilliant for parking . It managed to go up the hairpin bends to Piton la Fournaise! This is a MUST SEE, unbelievable. Set off very earl, 5 am if you have to travel, so you see the sun rise. I went swimming with wild dolphins from St Leu, a moving and magical experience. La grande Anse et cascades des Anses sont inoubliable. I visited local markets full of spices and colour, lovely people. Indian temples, a fantastic little Indian spice shop in St Pierre, worth the visit. Sunday brunch at Uni-Vert St Leu, right on the beach, fabulous food and service. I couldn’t have asked for more from this wonderful island.
