I did not get the car I reserved (Nissan Qashqai) but a smaller one (Skoda Yeti) which meant the suitcases had to be fitted The car was filthy and clapped out, with a broken windshield washer fluid reservoir, and the windshield itself seemingly coated with butter. The baby seats were also completely used up and of course no easyfix attachments.

The worst thing (I don't mind a load of scrapes on rental cars: I expect it for some territories), but the interior really stank of smoke. We didn't notice it so much when we picked the car up, as it had just been driven beforehand. However each day we went to use it, it almost made us feel ill for the first half hour we were in it. Cons: The car we were given was old, had done 82,000 miles and wasn’t in great condition. It was expensive for what we were given.

Pros: Nothing. When we collected the car, the employee walked around the car and didn't document any of the damage whilst claiming the car was brand new. We had to insist on repeating the inspection slowly (still on a busy road) and point out multiple damages to the car (please see next box)

Cons: Upon returning the car, the same employee (before we'd even got out of the car) called us over and claimed we had scratched the car. The scratch was minimal and on the underside of the car. This had not been inspected when we arrived. He would have to be lying down to see this which implied he knew it was there the whole time. Scam! We had to argue our case and were only told it was ok if we promised to leave a good review. I didn't feel comfortable leaving a review until my money was returned.

Pros: Pick-up and check out was easy. We got a very good deal on the car for 2,5 weeks in Crete. Car was not new but everything worked as a charm and we had a great time with it driving around the island! Check-out was also quick and easy. Would hire with ALMA cars again.

Cons: At pick up they thought I had a higher rental rate and tried to charge me this rate at first. But I had the rate from discovercars and they corrected the rate to this one. Was a bit strange but I think it was an honest mistake.

Cons: There was a scratch on the passenger side front panel near the ground. The Alma Car Hire representative stated it was likely “just from plants”, but then charged 300 euro in damages. He stated it wasn’t a big deal because Discover cars or insurance would pay for it. If it was from “just plants”, then it was simply related to regular use of the vehicle, not damages. They then tried to get less money if we paid it in cash, which we refused. Overall, a terrible experience.

Pros: Booked Clio Diesel (model not guaranteed), got Clio Diesel Caravan (I consider it as an upgrade, free of charge). Definitively a huge plus for them! Employees at picking up and dropping off very kind and efficient.

Cons: Alma drop off person tried to scam me into paying for a scratch on the car I had proof I did not do. I took a photo of the exact scratch when I picked up the car and had a timestamp as proof. Without this, Alma would have charged me for it. The guy even argued with me on the phone about it before I sent him my photo evidence. If you rent from these people, MAKE SURE you cover your own a** and take photo and video of the car when you pick up. Nobody at the drop off office at 7:30am either.

Cons: The engine management of our first car was indicating a problem when we picked up the car, but was told that this wasn't anything to worry about, just that the fuel on the island is poor. The problem got more serious when the engine cut out into our trip. A further fault was that vibrations could be felt under braking (it felt like the rear brakes). The replacement car was better, but the rear brake shoe was worn, leading to a grinding noise under braking.

The car was a little slow when shifting (automatically) between gears, but overall very easy to drive. Also — awesome prices! Best we found at Heraklion airport by a landslide.
