Autocunha Car Rental
Autocunha is a car rental company serving São Miguel, the largest and most populated of the nine islands of the Azores, a Portuguese archipelago in the Atlantic. Despite its small size and relative remoteness, the Azores has become an increasingly popular travel destination, receiving thousands of visitors from mainland Portugal, Europe, and North America. The company also has opened a location on the mainland of Portugal in Porto.
The company started in 1992 as a car dealership on the island of São Miguel and would only later in 2007 branch into offering rental vehicles. And now that the company has many years of experience, it is unsurprisingly highly rated by our customers. In 2023 and 2024, it won our Excellent Car Rental Service Award for Ponta Delgada Airport.
In the Azores, taking a rental car onto a ferry is usually not allowed by the rental company. So if you plan to visit other islands like Pico, Terceira, or Flores, then you’ll need to plan to rent a separate vehicle on each island.
