Autounion
Autounion is a Greek car rental brand whose official company name is Active Cars SA. It is one of the largest Greek car rental companies with almost complete coverage of the entire country.
Autounion has more than 400 locations across Greece. The company has locations on many Greek Islands, including Crete. It also has locations in Cyprus. The company claims to be the largest rental company in Greece.
Autounion not only operates in Greece but operates a franchising business model outside of Greece. While most of the countries it has franchisees in are in the Balkans region, it also has franchise locations as far away as New Zealand. It uses its extensive experience and the reservation it has developed to help smaller local car rental businesses succeed and get access to more foreign visitors.
The company has won our Excellent Car Rental Service award in multiple locations. Some examples of locations where the company has won the award are Tirana Airport, Sofia Airport, Helsinki Airport, Agadir Airport, Pristina International Airport, and Mykonos Airport. We give this award to the best car rental companies as rated by our customers (as long as they have at least a certain number of ratings).
In Greece, Autunion will deliver your vehicle to your hotel in many locations. This, of course, costs extra and needs to be requested ahead of time. This is a great service to take advantage of if you plan to stay in a town and have some beach days and will only need the vehicle to travel on certain days of your trip.
Autounion, with so many locations in Greece, has an extensive fleet of vehicles to serve travelers of all types. The company has plenty of smaller mini and economy cars, which are always popular in Greece, particularly on the islands as they have small, narrow roads and not much space for parking. The company also has plenty of medium-sized and large cars along with SUVs for those traveling with more people or luggage. And for those with large families or in groups, the company also offers passenger vans. While you can rent, for example, a convertible Mini from Autounion, the company doesn’t have an extensive selection of luxury or premium vehicles, though it does have enough of a selection if you’re not too picky with the exact model of car you want to drive during your trip.
When renting vehicles, many travelers run into the problem of credit vs. debit cars. Autunion, like many rental companies in Greece, does not accept debit cards. In order to pick up a vehicle from the company, you’ll have to have a credit card (in the main driver’s name) on which to leave the security deposit.
Depending on where you are planning to travel in Greece, you can pick up a rental car from Autunion in one location and drop it off in another. This must be booked in advance and will come with an additional charge, of course. Keep in mind that it is extremely unlikely that you’ll be able to pick up and drop off a car on different islands (or between the mainland and any island).
