Pros: The agent was helpful and quick with getting us the car.

Cons: The shuttle was awful; the car was okay. There were cigarette burns on the seat and it smelled of cigarettes. The language on the screen was not English. There was not place to connect a phone.

Cons: Car’s condition was questionable. Tires were almost barely legal. Multiple buttons didn’t work on the interior of the car. When I was trying to reach a hold of anyone. I tried multiple phone numbers and didn’t get an answer for days.

Pros: There was nothing I liked about the service provided with Discount Car. I have also emailed and heard absolutly no reply back.

Cons: The model of vehicle provided was an 11 year old car with 200,000km. This is not a rental vehicle, this is a used car. A rental car is tyically 1-3 years old with 10,000-50,000km on the car.

Cons: Discount car rental was closed on the day of the pick up. They arranged for a pick up through FLYWAY but there was no communication about it. Discount car rental contact number did not work. After somehow asking the help desk at the airport, we could reach the pick up spot. But, the car provided was untidy (not even simple carpets) and child seats provided was dirty.

Pros: Please avoid this rental company at all costs.

Cons: Dreadful company. Car was ancient with multiple body work issues, 220k+ mileage. Rude staff. Had us waiting for an airport shuttle for over an hour. Ended up having to demand a refund as their cars look like they have come from a scrap yard. Please avoid.

I had flown 22 hours, I was in no condition to start any serious coms with this poor outfit. Suggest you send some one to check them out!! I will no longer use your company Discovery cars or recommend you. I was greatly let down. Drop off was a complete shambles.

The representative was not at the desk and I had to wait at least 20 minutes before any service. The car was quite dirty with random pieces of trash left in various corners of the car. One of the headlights was not working. One of the window buttons was reversed. The drop off location was incorrect on the email I was provided. The representative did not provide compensation for the trash found.

Not helpful at all and only mention to call Discount Car Rental if I have an issue. Need to go search for the car at night. No clear instructions.

Cons: Everything was just awful. The worst car rental experience of my entire life. We rented a car and the headlights didn't work at all. We exchanged it for another one, and the same issue persisted. Both cars had unbelievably high mileage. We didn't receive an updated contract. Nobody even apologized. Terrible service, total disregard for customers. The parking situation was also atrocious. The customer service was appalling.

Pros: Everything offered was provided including efficient service and a comfortable vehicle. Arrangement for early check-in was courteous, convenient and easy.

Cons: Some confusion about branding. Discover cars became Discount cars and the service desk did not know the name Discover Cars when queried.

Pros: Price was cheap compared to other rental cars. However, it comes with the price of poor customer service, lack of transparency on charges made, unclean and smelly car, long wait time on pick up (45mins delay since the car wasn’t ready on the agreed pick up time)

Upholstery and chairs were still dusty. Sticky steering wheels. Used cotton tips on the dashboard and sides of door panels. Carpets still full of dust and soil. Charged us again on the insurance and not being transparent about it despite having one with DiscoverCars. So BEWARE!

Cons: There were costs that I have never heard of and did not ook out for. I still don't even understand what these costs are for. There was also a degree of dishonesty as the paperwork stated the car had just under 94000 km on the clock at pick-up ("kms out"), where it actually was just a few kilometres under 241000 km. The body of the car was badly scratched and overall looked quite battered. I will certainly not use their services again and will warn others.

We dropped off in hours, but service was very poor - the shuttle initially refused to take our over-sized baggage and said we should drop them at the airport first (even though it wasn't a problem at pick-up). The car brakes juddered on steeper descents or heavier braking. Not sure that the service desk cared.

Cons: I had to catch a 9:00 am flight, after I dropped off the car at the depot and taken to the airport by a shuttle bus, I was charged NZ$35. The explanation was the office wouldn't be open until 9:00 am.

Pros: I was so appreciative of the lovely lady that drove me to te airport when I returned the car. I got stuck in major traffic and was at risk of missing my international flight home. If she hadn't been so kind to drive me directly there I would have missed my flight. So thankful 🙏

Cons: When we picked up the car, the disillusionment came. We refused the first car because so many parts were defective that a 16-day rental period was unreasonable. The second car was also poorly maintained and had many dents and broken parts. We wanted to rebook to a different price category, unfortunately there was no other aviable.

Cons: Small operation, not enough people to take care of customers, more so the time it took for each customer was three times that of a mainstream rental car agency.

Pros: The agent was polite and friendly. We could pick up and drop off our rental car efficiently.

Cons: The rental van's old (Year 2005) with mileage 275,000+ km. I complained the van was too old but the agent said it's the only one left. (That meant take it or none). The windshield wipes were rusted, the tires alignment was unbalance. The worst part was this van would burn the engine oil. Fortunately we added more engine oil in time. When I dropped off the van and complained this issue to the agent, he knew it but he didn't remind us adding engine oil. That meant he risked our lives on purpose!

Cons: The car already had a lot of damage. It was embarrassing. The service light was on when I picked it up. They suggested I could get the car serviced myself. Really!!!!! Someone from the rental company input an incorrect credit card number and thus triggered the credit card security people which stopped me from being able to use my card. Had to waste time and money trying to unlock my card.

Pros: Staff could barely speak English. The car wasn’t ready or clean. It was a veee re y old car with some part broken or not working. Half the instrumentation was in Japanese, so we couldn’t read it.

Cons: Surprised at age of vehicle, 18 years with over 206k kms. Never experienced this before when renting cars, this was definitely not what we expected. There was no cruise control, no built in gps or usb ports or access to CarPlay. To use Tomtom gps we needed to know the post code for every location which was not easily available. Car had bad odour and spill stains on carpet.

Cons: First car had no spare tire, so I was substituted another car with 124,000 km - that's quite a bit for a rental. It was also barely cleaned. The speedometer was slow by 7 km/h, confirmed by both GPS and roadside speed signs. Finally, it was a Japanese edition vehicle - so everything was in Japanese. There appeared to be no option to change the language settings, nor could I read the manual. The stereo was an aftermarket add-on, so none of the steering wheel controls worked.

Cons: 1. We booked a minivan but when the contract arrived the day before, it was for a Toyota rav4. The company was able to switch to a minivan but the minivan appeared to be 20 years old with a poorly functioning passenger door and no windshield wiper fluid. 2. The oil gasket blew rendering the vehicle useless. We were 3 hours from the rental company and they would have had us wait while they sent someone to get us. We ended up losing our last full day of activities and received no compensation.

Cons: Very old, very used car - with 170,000 kms on the clock - and we wondered why such a high-milage car was being rented out. Sure enough, the gearbox went on the 3rd day of usage. However, Discount Car Rentals did well to get a repair truck, and then a ride to the airport later, so cannot fault that. However, condition of the car is far too poor for the price I paid.

Cons: Car was in very poor condition and was a very base trim - definitely not ‘equivalent’ to the modern Corolla that they sold me on. Car was not that clean, boot opening button was broken and the air conditioning didn’t work at all - made it a very uncomfortable journey in summer heat.

When I mentioned this to the office when we dropped the car off she wasn't worried at all. Also the car only had 3/4 tank of fuel. Fairly disappointing really.

Cons: Was disapointed at a stone chip mark on the windscreen being identified using unclear photographs, and the receptionest being determined that I caused it. I believe it more likely to happened by staff driving the vehicle elsewhere on the large gravel surface lot. I myself did not drive over any gravel during my car hire period. A stone against the window directly in front of the driver is loud and scary. This did not occur at all during the time I drove the car. I need you to reconsider.

Pros: this was an older model car (14yo) with many km on the clock but still worked perfectly and the condition of the car was better than I could expect, the service at pick up and drop off was excelent, I have recommended discount cars to family visiting NZ

Cons: when we returned the car the desk clerk alledged that we had scratched the car. no one went over the car with us when we picked it up. desk clerk went through comp records and found that the scratch / dent was already present. Not something you want to deal with when you have spent hours driving to drop off the rental car.

Pros: Staff were wonderful and easy to deal with. Answered all our questions we asked.

Cons: While I didn't expect a brand new car, I didn't expect to get a 2010 Toyota Aurius. I paid intermediate (corolla or equivalent). This car was much smaller. I queried this on pick up but was told it was similar to Corolla. Car was dirty. Inside of windscreen had a dirty film which meant I had no visibility at night especially when faced with oncoming headlights. Had to stop and buy cleaning supplies and handtowel to clean. There were dirty tissues and four previous clients paperwork in car.

Cons: Have scored as low as possible as still waiting for our $1000 security deposit to be released more than 5 days after return of car. No response to emails. Do not book a vehicle with Discount Cars NZ

Cons: Tires on the rental were nearly bald. This makes for dangerous driving particularly in wet conditions. It rained the whole time we had the car. The two wheels on the driver side didn’t have hub caps, but the two on the passenger side did.

Cons: We called the shuttle numbers for two hours and nobody answered so we finally had to Uber to the location after they opened. The car provided was not what I wanted and had over 100,000km on it and the Bluetooth, nav. Etc was locked and in Japanese. The car had issues I raised and I was blown off as if it didn’t matter that the doors only locked sometimes and car constantly had issues starting. Overall not a good experience.

Cons: Engine was dirty, andonly one working headlight when we took over the car - They offered to swap cars but we were already in Rotorua so had to sort this out ourselves - find a mechanic and buy a new bulb (but they did reimburse us for the cost of the bulb.

Cons: Deposit deducted, not held, and left waiting for reimbursement of deposit. Car had done many more km than I had expected, and had scratches when picked up. But was very reliable.

Cons: As per most rental companies, no clothe for cleaning glass, cheap clothe to wipe away condensation on inside/outside first thing in morning.

Cons: Car was filthy when we picked it up, had to buy a rag and get hot water to clean the inside windows, couldn't drive in the dark at all!!

Pros: Everyone was friendly, booking process and picking up car was seamless. Dropping off car was very quick as well. Car, although 9 years old, was in very good condition and we had no issues at all.

Cons: Email communication was a bit difficult when I was trying to get an update on the status of our booking following Cyclone Gabrielle. I ended up having to phone from Canada and incurring costs to talk with someone to be reassured that all was well.

Cons: The first car I picked up after hours was not roadworthy. The steering wheel shuddered when I drove the car at any speed. I tried to return it but the person from the transport company couldn't help me as she didn't work for Discount car rentals. In the morning I returned the car and they swapped it for a different car, same model. There was no concern by the staff about my comments regarding the car. I told them not to use the car but I didn't get the feeling they would take that advice.

Cons: Waiting over 45mins to get picked up. Waiting another 30mins to get the correct vehicle - was issued a 7 seater, needed an 8 seater.

I had paid over $100 when i booked the car, then another $700+ when picking the car up, and i wasnt expecting a fancy car, but the car inside had dust all around the dust board, the windows looked unwashed, and whenever turning the ignition over, it would make this awful screeching noises. The car drove fine, and the service was good but the value of the car was not worth it.

Followed out of hours pick up instructions - no answer on phone, thankfully flight delayed so was able to use in hours instructions as it was after 9am. We go there and had booked a Toyota corolla or similar. We were given a very old Mazda. So old it didn't even have remote locking (ie just a key). Next time I won't be stingy and will book from a better place

Pros: They were very nice and quick, though busy when we picked up so we had to wait a bit.

Cons: We found the instructions for finding the shuttle to be confusing so we just took an Uber to the pick up location. Even then it was not super clear where to go, but we found it. But again, this service is about the price, which was great.

Pros: Prompt response to queries and concerns, management of and regular communication with me after breaking down. I was provided with a replacement vehicle the next day in the town I was located.

Cons: Lack of communication and information provided to customer regarding insurance policy, terms and conditions and general queries. Staff had very limited knowledge and were unable to offer detailed information when I requested further information. Communication at times was unprofessional. I was left to cover the expenses of having the car inspected by NZRA, taxi fares and was not reimbursed until weeks later when I returned the car. Refusal to refund me the days I was without a car is unfair.

Pros: shuttle service, ease of getting on the road.

Cons: the car had over 103K, but worked just fine, toward end of week near glow worm caves the engine lite would faintly come on/off, day before drop off, oil level was fine, and engine ran smoothly.
