The engine warning light came on during the hire, the car was supposed to be a hybrid but the electric system didn’t work, and the wing mirror electrics were broken. The entertainment system was very cheap and poorly installed, and the screen reflected sunlight so badly it was often impossible to see what was displayed. Overall, the car condition was poor and didn’t feel reliable.

They finally gave me an old Camry which was quite beaten up and old. Most of their cars have spiders living in it and spinning new cobwebs everyday. Would not recommend Discount Car Rentals to anyone at all.

Cons: The car was covered in marks and dents which in itself wasn’t a major problem, they didn’t do a condition report on the car and no one there from the company on pick up, just an attendant from a parking company, were involved in a no fault accident, they would not go through their insurance if they have one, sent me a repair bill the next day from a garage that doesn’t exist and a receipt for the deduction from my credit card, also did not refund the bond even though I had taken the full excess.

I topped it up and it only had 20psi in it, which is of course dangerous. The key also had very little battery, making it very temperamental to unlock the car.

After somehow asking the help desk at the airport, we could reach the pick up spot. But, the car provided was untidy (not even simple carpets) and child seats provided was dirty.

We exchanged it for another one, and the same issue persisted. Both cars had unbelievably high mileage. We didn't receive an updated contract. Nobody even apologized. Terrible service, total disregard for customers. The parking situation was also atrocious. The customer service was appalling.

Charged us again on the insurance and not being transparent about it despite having one with DiscoverCars. So BEWARE!

Cons: Car had a few scratches and dents on it, which they didn't note anywhere. So I videoed the condition before I left. Slightly inconvenient not being at airport and the directions to shuttle bus weren't clear, but feel this is more the airport as construction everywhere.

Cons: When we picked up the car, the disillusionment came. We refused the first car because so many parts were defective that a 16-day rental period was unreasonable. The second car was also poorly maintained and had many dents and broken parts. We wanted to rebook to a different price category, unfortunately there was no other aviable.

Cons: Small operation, not enough people to take care of customers, more so the time it took for each customer was three times that of a mainstream rental car agency.

Pros: The agent was polite and friendly. We could pick up and drop off our rental car efficiently.

Cons: The rental van's old (Year 2005) with mileage 275,000+ km. I complained the van was too old but the agent said it's the only one left. (That meant take it or none). The windshield wipes were rusted, the tires alignment was unbalance. The worst part was this van would burn the engine oil. Fortunately we added more engine oil in time. When I dropped off the van and complained this issue to the agent, he knew it but he didn't remind us adding engine oil. That meant he risked our lives on purpose!

Pros: The only positive was the car didn’t break down.

Cons: The car already had a lot of damage. It was embarrassing. The service light was on when I picked it up. They suggested I could get the car serviced myself. Really!!!!! Someone from the rental company input an incorrect credit card number and thus triggered the credit card security people which stopped me from being able to use my card. Had to waste time and money trying to unlock my card.

Pros: Staff could barely speak English. The car wasn’t ready or clean. It was a veee re y old car with some part broken or not working. Half the instrumentation was in Japanese, so we couldn’t read it.

Pros: Quick & friendly service. We had already done the on-Line check in before arrival which I would recommend.

Cons: Surprised at age of vehicle, 18 years with over 206k kms. Never experienced this before when renting cars, this was definitely not what we expected. There was no cruise control, no built in gps or usb ports or access to CarPlay. To use Tomtom gps we needed to know the post code for every location which was not easily available. Car had bad odour and spill stains on carpet.

Cons: L'intérieur du véhicule n'était pas très propre. Impossible de changer la langue de l'ordinateur, il n'y avait que du japonais. Les amortisseurs semblaient fatigués, la direction faisait du bruit, les pneus étaient surgonflés. Résultat : la tenue de route était très moyenne.

Cons: Multiple issues that need to be fixed. Main one airport collection. I had multiple people who were at the car hire complain also about the pick up service. Cars need to be serviced.

Pros: It was cheap.

Cons: First car had no spare tire, so I was substituted another car with 124,000 km - that's quite a bit for a rental. It was also barely cleaned. The speedometer was slow by 7 km/h, confirmed by both GPS and roadside speed signs. Finally, it was a Japanese edition vehicle - so everything was in Japanese. There appeared to be no option to change the language settings, nor could I read the manual. The stereo was an aftermarket add-on, so none of the steering wheel controls worked.

Pros: Representatives were friendly.

Cons: 1. We booked a minivan but when the contract arrived the day before, it was for a Toyota rav4. The company was able to switch to a minivan but the minivan appeared to be 20 years old with a poorly functioning passenger door and no windshield wiper fluid. 2. The oil gasket blew rendering the vehicle useless. We were 3 hours from the rental company and they would have had us wait while they sent someone to get us. We ended up losing our last full day of activities and received no compensation.

Cons: Discount is the worse company. Cars were dirty. Had a rock chip in the windscreen and now wants to try and charge me for it. They don’t have any pictures from before the trip. Worse company and overall experience. Do not rent from them. Avoid at all costs.

Pros: Usual what you'd expect from a discount rental shop. Road-side assistance and care to get us to the airport on time was good, after the car broke down.

Cons: Very old, very used car - with 170,000 kms on the clock - and we wondered why such a high-milage car was being rented out. Sure enough, the gearbox went on the 3rd day of usage. However, Discount Car Rentals did well to get a repair truck, and then a ride to the airport later, so cannot fault that. However, condition of the car is far too poor for the price I paid.

Cons: The car seat that was scheduled was not in the vehicle that was picked up; instead, it had to be picked up the following day.

Pros: Clean the car properly. Check if the car’s basic functions are working and not making extreme noises.

Cons: They didn’t have a car available to change when needed. The car was smelling a dead animal inside. The switchers for the suppers and lights weren’t working properly and the breaks were making loud noises.

Cons: Car was in very poor condition and was a very base trim - definitely not ‘equivalent’ to the modern Corolla that they sold me on. Car was not that clean, boot opening button was broken and the air conditioning didn’t work at all - made it a very uncomfortable journey in summer heat.

Pros: Overall it was value for money. They were kind enough to close one eye when the fuel gauge was slightly below the full tank

Cons: Having to take shuttle bus to get to the car pick up and drop off. The shuttle bus might be a little difficult to locate and I had to leave the rest of my group at the airport and come back to pick them after I had the car.
