Also known as Dollar Rent a Car, this famous car rental company is part of Hertz Global Holdings and, like its parent company, is based in Estero, Florida. Previously based in Los Angeles and Oklahoma and part of the Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group, it was acquired by Hertz for US$ 2.3 billion in 2012. Hertz Global Holdings (or, as it was previously known, the Hertz Corporation), is one of the oldest businesses in the global rental car market and celebrated its 100th birthday in 2018.
Dollar maintains a strong focus on the US market, but also has a global presence – its rental car offices can be found in such varied destinations as Spain, Costa Rica, Serbia, and Morocco. The company also dedicates strong attention to the tourism market of the United Arab Emirates and specifically Dubai, even publishing a blog that suggests various places to visit in the city and tips for navigating its traffic as a foreign visitor driving a rental car.
