Cons: They attempted to sell us very expensive insurance they knew we didn’t need. As they did everyone else in the queue. We showed the lady at the desk we had valid insurance with another company and she shrugged her shoulders and mumbled it might not be valid. It’s an out and out lie. How this practise is still legal is beyond me.

Pros: The Toyota Corolla hybrid car was good to drive. Short waiting time at rental office in airport.

Cons: We have rented cars from Hertz many times before to our satisfaction. But this time the car was below Hertz standard. The car was quite used (about 33000km) and had 22 noted damages we had to find and check before departure! The car was not cleaned very well and had a dust layer on the internals. During the first rain later we found the right window wiper had broken rubber on the outer 10 cm. On the return trip to the airport 2 weeks later a strange intermittent transmission sound appeared.

Pros: Clean and new car. Very efficient drop off service.

Cons: Queued for over an hour to pick up car and resupply details already submitted online. Paid for larger car, given 1.2L model, which struggled on hills! Not sure it was worth the additional money to go for Hertz over cheaper rental agency.

Cons: The general cleanliness of the car : dirty windscreen, dirty and sticky steering wheel, dirty seat and above all strong smoker atmosphere in the car + low power of engine (4 persons)

Pros: The car went faultlessly.

Cons: They scammed us for €140 on return for damage already shown on their forms. We wasted over 30 mins but they were adamant that even though they had recorded the damage from a previous driver, more had occurred!! Do not use Hertz in the Canaries, this is like going back forty years to all the scams back then, Do read their reviews - 1.4 I think - they are full of these scams across all Canary islands as they are not Hertz but a franchise. AVOID

Pros: Not much to be honest

Cons: No pre-booked desk, ended up queuing with people who hadn’t reserved a car. Took almost two hours to collect the car. No one went through the pre-checks on the condition of the car. Front tyres were barely legal. Handbrake was faulty. Mirrors couldn’t be adjusted.

Cons: The line for the delivery was long, and they were trying to sell insurance when I had one already.

Cons: I didn’t like the way they tried to sell me “all risks” insurance policy I explained I already had obtained all risks insurance from discover cars but they said it wasn’t sufficient and made me feel I should take out their own insurance I declined

Pros: Car return correct. Friendly agents.

Cons: Very long waiting at the desk in airport for pick-up. It took 15 minutes filling in documents. All data were already known by discover cars ans Hertz. Needed to fill in a paper, afterwards the agent had to put it in the computer.

Pros: First car provided was a Hyundai I20. We returned it after half a day. Only way it would move was having accelerater pedal flat to the floor. Agents very unhelpful when we took it back said that was normal for a hyundai and why would we expect anything different? These cars we were told were rubbish. Eventually agent agreed to exchange for VW polo. Agents insisted we top the petrol up, petrol used to return inadequate rental car.

Cons: Rude unhelpful, did not listen to us or accept car was not functioning properly

Cons: Had to wait nearly an hour at the Hertz desk to collect our car. Only one person at the desk, even though there was a long queue for precooked rentals. Excuse was a shrugged shoulders and “lots of flights have arrived together” as if they couldn’t have known this. Really poor.

Cons: When we came to pick up the car, nobody explained to us that WE have to check the car’s damages with the contract. Moreover the time we found the car, the desk was closed then how declare damages ? When we dropped off the car, they directly saw « new damages » (very little so it’s weird that they directly saw it) and took 140€ on the caution. Why a real check out but not a real check in ? We felt steal and not listened.

Rate includes
Free cancellation with a full refund up to 48 hours before your pick-up time, Unlimited mileage, First additional driver, Collision Damage Waiver (deductible: € 670.00), Theft Protection, Third Party Liability (TPL), Premium Location fee, Free modifications, State Tax.
Driver requirements
Minimum rental age is 21 years.
A young driver fee applies to drivers under the age of 25.

There is no maximum age.
A Senior driver fee is not applied.

The driver license must have been issued by authorized authorities at least 1 year(s) before the date of the commencement of the rental.

A driver license printed using a non-Roman alphabet (Arabic, Japanese, Cyrillic, etc) must be supplemented by an International Driving Permit.
Please note that the International Driving Permit is valid only if accompanied by the regular driver license.
For driver licenses from countries not party to the International Driving Permit treaty, an official translation of the license must be presented with the original license.

In addition to documents mentioned previously, the customer will need the following: valid driver license, credit card on a main drivers name, Passport or ID card, booking voucher.
Deposit and deductible policy
A deposit will be blocked on the customer's credit card and will be released within 30 days after drop-off.
The exact deposit is determined on pick up since the amount is dependent on the type of vehicle.
Payment policy
At time of pick up, customers will be required to pay the amount of the rental and a deposit.
The following credit cards issued on the main driver's name are accepted: American Express, Diners, MasterCard credit card, VISA credit card. Any other cards or cash payments are not accepted.

The main driver must provide a physical payment card in their name with enough funds to cover the deposit to pick up the car. The rental company will neither accept virtual credit cards (e.g., GooglePay or ApplePay) nor someone else’s card (including family members).
Optional extras and services
Available special equipment: GPS Navigation system, Baby seat (up to 1 year of age), Child seat (2-4 years of age), Booster seat (4-10 years of age), Wi-Fi.
Prices for extras are shown on the booking page.

Adding additional drivers is allowed.
There is an additional charge for each driver.
Underage additional drivers are subject to both Young Driver and Additional Driver fees.
Underage additional drivers are also subject to a young driver fee.
When picking up the vehicle, all drivers must be present and must provide valid documentation.

The first additional driver is allowed free of charge.
Fuel policy
The vehicle is provided with a full tank of fuel and must be returned with the same amount in order to avoid additional charges.
Rental period
The maximum rental period per agreement is 30 days.
If the renter would like to extend the rental period, renter should return to the car hire office at the end of the rental period to sign a new agreement.
Business hours
Period of time, during regular working hours, when the car is still guaranteed for the customer, if the customer is late for pick up (the grace period) is 120 minutes.
