Hitch Car Rentals at Queenstown Airport

Cons: Stereo was useless, was told it had Bluetooth but was in Japanese and couldn't connect to it

Pros: Paperwork was straight forward.

Cons: Staff were distracted and neglectful. I took the a while to pick us from the airport. Apparently, staff forgot our number and had to go back to their office for their phone!. Upon return there was nobody in the office and we were able to enter the office and see all clients data on their computers unprotected, open and unsecured.

Cons: Unfortunately, they gave us the wrong size of snow chain which didn't help us a lot when the Blizzard caught us. Anyway, we took the shuttle down into town and Hitch Car Rentals was very accommodating.

Pros: Good sevices and quick pick up

Cons: When busy it is very slow to process. Lucky we were front of the queue

Pros: Good service and also allowed extra hour for dropping off car which is better that I have to pay for whole day.

Cons: Couldn’t even play music in the car as everything was in Japanese. Paid twice for insurance as they didn’t have the details provided by discover car hire. Should be an option to drop off in town instead of having to get back to town from the airport.

Cons: Only one person doing paperwork so had to wait a bit longer than I wanted to when picking up but not that long really!

Cons: The car was dirty inside and out when we picked it up. Was a 2006 model (very old for a rental), the car was pulling left (alignment was out). Tyre tread was minimal and not suitable for Queenstown in the winter. Unfortunately the Hitch rental staff didn't know much about cars at all.

Cons: We have spent over half an hour in Queenstown airport to wait for shuttle bus pick us up. Other than that, everything is very good.

Pros: Great flexibility shown when my flight cancelled and I picked up car later than planned. I'm sure they could have charged me more under the "rules" but didn't. A big thank you! Very good staff at pick up location. Everything made clear to me and very thorough. Easy drop off at final destination.

Pros: The return process was fast and easy. We particularly enjoyed being able to rent a hybrid because of the gas savings and we liked the ability to pick up in Queenstown and drop off in Auckland.

Cons: The pick up location was overwhelmed with customers, took an hour to process us. Staff was great, but your system appeared to be too complex and time consuming. The car was great, but had 150,000 km on the odometer, was a bit dinged up and was missing a hubcap. Needed some maintenance. The power plug would not keep our GPS unit charged - we pointed this out. The car was obviously from Japan and had a Japanese language system. The constant Japanese announcements drove us batty.

Cons: It took a long time to get from the airport to the point where we drove off the lot. The staff checking us in seemed overwhelmed and understaffed.

Cons: They did not provide me with the exact car I reserved online. And I wish they had the option of letting them fill up the tank and just charge the customer.

Pros: Not much... the car was so crappy I parked it at my Airbnb right away and didn't touch it until it was time to go back to the airport.

Cons: Car had over 130000 km. Very dirty when we picked it up. 2 hubcaps came off during our drive. There were cracks in the back fender/bumper when we picked up car. There were high winds and the bumper almost came off. 2 days after we picked up the car we had a flat tire. There was a small nail in the tire causing a slow leak. It cost us $120 to have the tire repaired on a Friday night. The man who fixed our tire said the nail was most likely present when we picked up the car.

Cons: everything else. next time we'll pay more and use a hire service that has some customer service skills. its never taken us longer than 10 mins to rent a car anywhere in the world before this, including in countries where we dont share a common language.

Cons: The vehicle was very dirty, it had someone elses dental floss and the car smelt very foul. The car had a transmission that felt close to failing and it didnt handle hills very well due to lack of power. Vehicle was 10 years old and was by far the worst vehicle I've rented.

Cons: Pick up was slow, had to queue for 45 mins with only one representative issuing out the cars.

Pros: We needed a car on the South Island and this one didn't break down. About all I can say that is positive unfortunately.

Cons: The nav/music system was all in a foreign language, I believe Japanese since it's a Toyota. There was no way to change it to English, so we couldn't turn the radio on, link to Bluetooth, or input addresses into the nav system. The system also had an address preloaded, so it was constantly trying to direct us to a location in Japan. Very annoying. Staff did not seem to care when we returned the car and complained. Also, the cover for the back luggage area was missing, and no Aux port provided.

Pros: 1. Prompt pick up from Queenstown Airport. 2. Prompt, no dramas registration and handing over of the car. 3. The car drop was seamless. 4. Agents are always available on the phone, therefore, thumbs up for Customer service.

Cons: We didn’t at first get the car that we chose, we chose a 6 seater and got a 5 seater last miniute and had to wait to clean car and the child seat that was given had vomit stain and smell and we washed it at our accommodation..

Pros: Friendly and smooth. Phoned from Queenstown airport and they picked me up in 10mins. Didn’t feel pressured to upgrade insurance options. Really good price on the vehicle (about $20/day w $2K excess for a Nissan Tiida). Swapped my car for a slightly better one that had drop down rear seats so I could fit my long items (skis) inside the car, at no charge.

Cons: Their location is a short drive (5min) from the airport, but they provide a free pickup and drop off passenger van.

Cons: The Auckland staff was unfriendly (stark contrast from Queenstown). The shuttle arrived and loaded a family that arrived after us, then the second one came 15min later, loaded 2ppl who also arrived after us (when it fit 8) and told me he couldn't load my family into the van because this couple was late for their flight. I asked the front desk when the next one was coming because even though we arrived first and they said 15 more min. WE then became late for our flight due to your staff.

Cons: It took 30 min for the airport shuttle to arrive and probably another 30-45 min at the desk. The employees did not seem to be in a hurry. Once we finally reached the desk, they charged us a different rate. Not sure if it was a shuttle fee or an extra misc. cost. It was only $10 more than what my contract stated so I didn’t want to complain. After waiting more than a hour since the airport, I just wanted to get out of there. I will never return or recommend hitch rentals to anyone.

Cons: Older vehicle with over 100k km on the odometer, no cruise control or bluetooth audio. While vehicle interior was clean, exterior was not very clean (compared to other rentals I had in NZ)

Cons: It was a bit difficult to figure out where to find them when arriving to the airport. If a customer is traveling internationally and doesn't yet have a NZ number, it might be difficult if they don't know to call Hitch Rentals. A sign or posting might be helpful in the future.

Pros: It didn't take long to get or return the car. Car was in pretty good shape with less miles than the norm. Staff was friendly. Guy wrote down directions to help us find the obscure back alley location upon return, which was very helpful.

Cons: Strange location. No "desk". Lot was jam-packed with cars and hard to get out of and back into. Location not easy to find upon return.
