MEX RENT A CAR at Cancun Airport

Cons: They had problem to pick up us form Cancun Airport we needed to take a taxi.

Pros: Nothing.

Cons: Rude staff. Lazy staff - it took 30 minutes to get my car from Check-In. The car had faults and I just received a shrug when I complained.

Pros: Only the return of the car was according expectations

Cons: The so-called ‘service’ was a nightmare. After a 11-hours flight, waiting 2 1/2 hours in line, then forced to pay an extra insurance at an excessive price (USD928) ; agent wasn’t willing to accept the voucher and its conditions. Many people left the desk screaming, crying and frustrated because for the same reasons.

Cons: I would never recommend this place to rent a car in Cancun. Can’t say how it is elsewhere. I have booked the car online and paid full insurance. However, upon arrival to Mex check in point, the agent said it is actually not “full insurance “ and i have to pay extra 500$+, even though i have paid 200$ online with full insurance. It was an actual scam! It was an awful start of the holidays.

Cons: The windows were fairly dirty, to the point that it became unsafe to drive and I had to stop to clean them.

Cons: One of our tires blow up. We wanted to replace it, with the spare one, but it was also broken. We called the rental and they said someone was coming. After an hour we called back and where told nobody was on the way, because they were confused about the situation. Luckily the second time we called they got the problem and sent someone with spare tires and an replacement car.

Cons: Very high pressure to get additional insurance. Said it was the law and showed me a Google search. Then said if I killed someone would go to jail. After 15 minutes she finally gave up.

Cons: The agent wouldn't let us take the car without purchasing extra insurance coverage. Multiple people told us this was a scam. It took over an hour to get a car, which was on fumes when we received it. We were in a pinch to make the last ferry to Isla Holbox. So having to stop and get gas was not appreciated. It was raining out as well and the wipers didn't clear at all. This made the two hour trek very dangerous. Not happy with our experience.

The conditions of the cars are incredibly bad, I have never seen anything like it, the first one could not statt, battery dead, they wanted to jumpstart it and give it to me, I refused because I didn’t want to have a car with a faulty battery. The second car had a crashed in the left back corner, with several pieces missing that where put on the trunk, one of the screen wipers was missing and with the heavy rains I refused it, third one was full of rust

Cons: Nothing. They where very pushy with the insurance, even if I had full coverage they still try to infuse fear to get their own insurance and if you dont they block 1,500$ on the credit card

Cons: Tenía el coche reservado con seguro full coverage Pagado en discivercars. Al llegar me querían obligar a pagar otro seguro, porque según ellos el que tenía "no cubría daños a terceros". Me pedían 400 euros más y si no no me dejaban el coche. Después de 3 horas de discusión (y intentando pedirles por escrito el motivo por el cual no me entregan el coche, a lo que se negaron también), finalmente me dieron el coche. Pero me cobraron el depósito máximo posible (que todavía no está devuelto).

Cons: I waist around 3 hours of my vacation calling (with my own phone) to my credit card institution to get some approval for some deposit that was not suppose to be as in my booking with "DiscoverCars" (as usual, never works the first credit car you try) I received the car with empty gas tank and was advice to get gas in a place hard to find for a tourist.When returning the car, didnot find a clear directions on papers I received(it was very stressful and time consuming driving around.

Pros: After reading all the negative reviews, I was really worried but actually everything went smoothly. I declined their insurance (they weren't pushy), used my credit card for the deposit and then everything went smoothly. The car was not in excellent condition but considering how cheap the total price has been I can't complain (less than 11 euros/day). No problems at check-in and check-out.

Cons: Make sure to read the details and conditions of your contract very well. In my reservation, CDW, TPL and RPL were included so I could refuse their assurances and pay the deposit. Make sure you have a CREDIT card. Take photos and videos of the entire car just in case. I stressed out a lot for nothing as everything turned out to be ok.

We didn’t know we had to present a credit card with 5000 dollars of deposit (for European people it is not so common to have a credit card of more than 5000 dollars). So we could not do that. Nowhere in the papers it said that. So this added up another 430 dollars on top of the price we already payed for the car in advance.

Cons: I was under the impression that booking with Discovercars.com was a one-stop-shop deal. I didn't worry about the rental again until we got to the desk to get the car, at which point we were informed that we had to purchase additional insurance or we would not be able to rent the car. We spent an extra couple of hundred dollars, but we needed the car to get to our destination since it was late at night. I would look up other rental companies in the future, although I wonder if this is standard.

Pros: High demand- took 1 hour to see an attendant due to the line. But once it we did they were very efficient. They were very helpful and professional.

Cons: They advise a cheap rental price but they force you to pay for their third party insurance wich is 3 times more expensive then the actual car rental and they tell you the price in US then they switch in pesos when it's time to pay with an horrible exchange rate so it ends up being 4 times more expensive then what it was supposed. Huge scam! Also, the car was pretty old and in not So good shape, many scatches and the breaks were not very responsive. Never again.

The total cost of this insurance would have almost doubled the total price of my rent. There was no info about it beforehand. If it is mandatory why not to include it in rental price? Anyways after putting my foot down and I said that I didn’t have that information and it says that I don’t need to take anything, then they finally offered an option to take deposit.

Pros: They had someone who spoke English when returning not picking up. I speak enough spanish but not to get into details of the contract. Especially the additionally $400 it costed that I wasn't expecting.

Cons: We recieved a car with a slow leak in the tire. Had to fill the tire up twice a day and finally switched to the spare tire. luckily it was a full spare and it got us through our vacation. Definitely added some stress driving. Based on Discoved Cars, we only had to pay $126 when we picked the car up. THIS WAS FAR FROM THE CASE. I was charged $527 which was very misleading and would have chosen a National Car which I am more familiar with and know how the fees work (would have saved over $200)

Despite doing all the research, booking ahead of time to guarantee my rate and using a Credit Card with an Auto Rental Collision Damage Waiver implicit in its benefits, MEX RENT A CAR refused to rent me the car unless I paid $60 a day for it instead of the $13 a day, which I had originally booked it for. It was an absolute scam experience and i do not recommend going there to anyone ever again. Watch out.

When we arrived to the car rental we were asked for a credit card deposit for 24.500 MXN. Pros: The front desk man that we filled out all the paperwork with was very gracious and understanding when we were having trouble with insurance matters. The discover cars coverage was not accepted at Mex rent a car and so we were very confused about what coverage we needed from Mex and about additional charges upon arrival. Note that if you are not a Mexican insured driver the cost of your rental increases 7x because you have to buy the liability insurance coverage which is not offered by discover.

Cons: First car provided broke down not long after we collected, why are they not checked?!? Roadside assistance very basic and the person sent had no tools other than using his own battery. When calling each time the person on the end of the phone would start using whatsapp instead and hang up with no warning. There was a long time between messages and, while we were broken down, had to move around outside the car to ensure signal. Had to call for updates as nobody was proactive in contacting us.

Cons: When I arrived in Cancun, I was told Discover Cars paid a deposit with what you charged to my credit card, but that did not guarantee me with a car so they had no vehicle for me. In checking with other rental car companies at the airport, I would have to pay $800-$1300 USD for the 6 days. That being too costly, I had to pay $125USD each way, from and to the airport. Not pleases at all and requesting full refund of my deposit or I will be reporting this company and putting bad reviews online.

They also gave me the car with ZERO gas, I had to take an extra risky drive to find a gas station and then I had to deliver the car with obviously more gas than I received it with.

The trunk was useless—it had collapsed and they put some pieces of styrofoam to prop up the mat. Worst of all the gas tank was totally empty!!!

Then they made us wait 45min for our car even though it was just sitting right in front of us. Inside of the windshield was so dirty we had to clean it ourselves. Cons: They run a scam operation - when you arrive, they tell you your car is not ready, only more expensive cars are ready, and essentially pressure you into renting a much more expensive car to avoid waiting for hours at the airport. It happened to every one of the 4 people in our group who rented a car there.

Agent convinced my to buy your insurance, but didn't tell me anything about how it was a refund policy. It was then very hard work to convince Mex cars that I didn't need their fully comprehensive insurance AS WELL. Very stressful. You need to improve communication to customers and your hire providers.

I know the amount is $2,500 as a hold because I rent cars in Mexico and insure my own vehicle when going to Tijuana. They gave me the car with the Petrol on empty. The Fuel light was flashing and I had to find a station very quickly to not run out. Was told to return the car empty. This is almost impossible and I returned it half full without reimbursment.

They looked at the video and agreed the rental was damaged prior to us receiving it.

They insisted our cover was only 3rd party which was not accurate. Returning the car was very stressful just one person doing the inspections and about 25 cars waiting. Return bus to airport was only every 25 mins and after long wait to return the car we had to run to terminal 3 ( made our flight!)

Cons: According to Mex Rent A Car, by using Discover Cars I was not covered by the CDW insurance normally offered to Mex Rent a Car customers. According to their website "All of our rates within Mexico includes third party liability up to $750,000.00 MXN (RLP) and coverage for the vehicle rented in case of an accident or total theft, with a 10% deductible (CDW)." However, use of Discover Cars invalidated this, costing me an additional USD 28 per day!

Cons: I had my own insurance and they forced me to take their insurance which was exorbitantly high. I will no longer book with bad car rental agencies that hide their costs. I have rented for years and always opt out of the car rental insurance with no problem. They are scammers and find any way to make extra money.

Cons: The service upon drop off was mediocre at best - we had to find a guy and call him over to check us out rather than him coming to us. And there was supposed to be shuttle service. There was not and a lot of people were stuck waiting for one to never come. Probably missed flights because we almost did and they had earlier flights than us. But luckily we were able to hail a taxi and make it. Others probably weren’t so fortunate.

Cons: When we collected the car we noticed the “flat tyre” light was on the dash & asked the staff member about it. They said it was fixed but the light remained. We took him at his word but after driving for a while the car was pulling & breaking was not very responsive. We stopped at a garage & got someone to check the tyres. 3 were dangerously low & 1 was dangerously over inflated, making the car very unstable. Not what I would expect from a good company.

Pros: MEx Rent-A-Car is a complete scam. The couple beside me also had a reservation that was no longer was valid and also had to pay a significant amount more. They write the amount on a piece of paper so that other guests can’t hear.

Cons: It was a nightmare and I cried at the desk but had to pay because we had an hour drive to Tulum and it was dark. I ended up taking the car for only three days at double the price. When I was supposed to have it for six days. When I called customer service I was hung up on twice.

Cons: The final amount everywhere was in dollars but on the day of rental they said it was based on a coversion they used as reference which was 1usd = 22.5Pesos which is absolutely absurd (since they advertised way lower prices in USD which is why I selected MEX in first place). Then they charged me on pesos and the the USD amount came to be about a $100 more.
