MEX RENT A CAR at San Diego Airport

Pros: They found us another company, but it was stick almost 1/2 more expensive.

Cons: The phone number they gave me to call if we were going to be late, wasn't answered & when they said to leave a voice mail, you couldn't leave a voice mail. So, when we got there to pick up car, was told it wasn't available & we'd have to upgrade to an SUV for an additional $400.

Pros: I never got the chance to experience it. The shuttle driver told me there was no car for me, even though I had a reservation.

Pros: I made my reservation and was given a price to pay when I arrived. When I got there, I was told it would cost appx $100 more than I was quoted. Not happy. Was told that CA requires an "insurance" that was not disclosed during the online rental process. Seemed like bait and switch to me. I had mo option but to pay it.

Cons: Mex Rent a car was great. Only issue was the bait and switch with the inaccuracy of the online rental process.

Cons: I didnt get to pick up the car because the office is closed and I tried calling the company but they didnt pick up. I even tried to leave a message. Theres none. No refund either

Pros: The only positive was that the guy who picked us up was great and we didn't have to wait around.

Cons: They were horrible! We waited at least an hour to get our reservation taken care of. Then they told us that b/c we were flying out early and they weren't open, that we would have to drop our rental off at some other location and would also have to pay $15 to do so. Then to top it off, they gave us the wrong address for the drop off location; so we were driving around for about 1/2 an hour trying to find it. Absolutely terrible.

Cons: I got charged $54 for a "late return" when I returned the car 15 hours before the due date/time. The headache of getting this refunded has soured the experience. Larger companies would've resolved this issue immediately.

Cons: When I went to drop off the car, they were closed. We were not told when we picked up the car, that they wouldn’t be open till 6 am , it was a good thing I dropped off my husband and baby and Our bags to check in while I returned the carnor we would have been very late to catch our flight.

Cons: As I went to return car, I noticed the address on the damage sheet was different than where I thought I was supposed to return it. So I made a call, to check. Turns out they had run out of their sheets so were using some from a different address. I wish it could have been more clear.

Even brought the receipt and you can tell the lady at the desk was not pleased. There's better ways to react to that type of thing.

The total cost of my rental ended up being $150 more than quoted by DiscoverCar Hire. Instead of being the best deal, it was the most expensive option available. I felt scammed, angry, and trapped.

Cons: They were difficult to add my wife to the reservation. Discover car hire had to call them for me. But eventually Mex added her to the reservation. Once we landed, Mex did not have a car for us. They said they overbooked, and that we could wait to see if a car gets returned and we could have it, but they had no ETA as to when a car would be avail. They were not helpful or apologetic in the slightest.

They refused to refund us the insurance cost when we advised them of the error. I asked to speak with their manager and they said they would cc us on an email which we have yet to receive. They also only have one person who receives, cleans, and drives the transport vehicle.

Cons: I wanted to return the car early. There was a $15 fee because they weren't open (OK with me). I asked her to revise the form, but it didn't say WHERE to return the car. There also is no sign outside the building where to return cars outside working hours (the gate is locked and it isn't a good neighborhood, so you can't just leave the car with the keys). I had to call MEXICO to find someone. Please put up a sign telling people where to take cars outside business hours!!

Cons: They could not find my reservation. Multiple long phone calls yielded nothing. The staff (in in person interactions during pick up) seemed far more interested in nickel and diming me for add-ons than making sure my basic needs were met. I guess you get what you pay for with a low cost option like this. I will actively tell friends to avoid using this business.

Pros: The shuttle to pick me up was prompt and the driver was polite. When dropping the car off the gentleman outside cleaning the vehicles was friendly.

Cons: The women at the customer counter were rude not only to me but 2 other customers. They didnt not honor the price listed for daily insurance on your website, even with the a email receipt. Instead the cost of the insurance double in price per day when I picked the car up. This was a horrible experience and I would not recommend anyone renting a car at this facility.

Pros: Nothing. Untrained employees. Excessive wait of 40 minutes with only ONE person in front of me. Excessive 30 minute wait for their shuttle AFTER taking the shuttle to the typical car rental facility.

Cons: MEX Car Rental is the absolute worst experience I have ever had in my 28 years of renting cars on a regular basis. 30 Min to get to them. 45 minutes in line once there with only ONE person in front of me (untrained person), Charged $25 because they don't open before I needed to return the car, AND the Car was a piece of JUNK. Leaking tires I had to fill twice, loose stearing, breaks that grabbed, massive dents, vomit stains, doors that don't unlock remotely, no electric windows... THE WORST!

Also was told shuttle driver would be available at 7 and he was not, forcing my family and ito take a Lyft vehicle to airport.

Cons: I felt the sales pitch from the beginning, getting charged for a full tank of gas without it being clearly explained to me. I also went to return my car, arrived only THREE minutes after my return time (8pm) to find a locked lot and staff gone. Luckily a grounds keeper was there to take the car, but I would need to close my account the following day. I have called numerous times, only to be put on hold with no return or not even being able to get through. I have also emailed with no response.

Cons: The car was very budget rental, which I had expected, and had some nicks and dents to the body of the car. The drivers door was difficult to open with the key. We reported that a upon drop off, so hopefully they were able to fix it before the next customer rented it.

Cons: Same thing as my overall experience. I went in thinking I had reserved an intermediate vehicle, but was told I booked a VERY BASIC (agent emphasis added, not mine) compact. Ended up having to spend $100 more to get the vehicle I thought I was getting to start with. Definitely never using this company again.

Cons: Car was beat up, dents, scratches all over. So basic there is no keyhole on passenger side, cannot open door if it's locked. Have to lock and unlock each door individually. I could have gotten a much better car for that price elsewhere. Big mistake that I will never make again.

When I called them about it, they said I must have run over a nail and they would charge me for the tire. It ended up just being low, so after I filled the tire, everything was fine. I did not like the customer service attitude from their agents at all!

Cons: My wife was called in to MEX RENT A CAR in between the 120 min grace period, and at the time we arrive to MAX RENT A CAR, she was saying we were late for 120 min, and we confirm that we do reach them before that. Anyway, she was saying because we use DISCOVER CAR HIRE as a third party to book the rental instead of book directly from there web site, she cannot provide us a car. we end up paying double of the price from somewhere else.

I had to ask why and he started to give me the explanation about being late and that I should know if I had read the contract, He frankly was not courteous and showed zero sense of customer service. Never was I informed that the extra day would be at their daily price, not DiscoverHire price. Overall a very bad experience for me. Will not use them again.

Cons: My reservation was for 7am. I paid for a cab to location and location was closed, sign on gate said they opened at 8am. I called 5 times no one answered nor was there a voicemail. I paid for a cab back home and finally got a hold of someone 40minutes after my scheduled pickup. I had to pay again fro another cab back to the location. I was not offered a rid or discount for this HUGE inconvenience which I missed an appointment and had to reschedule for work.

Cons: Ashley's (claimed to be the manager) bad attitude and refusal to assist me find an alternative vendor after failing to fulfill her companies contract. It almost seemed as though I was about to be given a.car until ashley misheard my name multiple times and appeared to get angry then after all the fuss tells me that there is no availability. She should have started the conversation with "we dnt have any cars" instead of saying "sure.. let me check you reservation".

I ended up renting at another location and spending three times as much. Several hours later I called back and explained how nobody would answer the phone and I had to go somewhere else. Their response was “okay” and they cancelled my reservation.

Pros: The willingness of the agents to help us out even after it closed at 8pm. We were at the airport a half hour ahead of time, however.

Cons: The instructions for pickup. It wasn't worded clearly that after exiting the airport and going to car rental pickups Bay that you needed to catch a shuttle to the car rental terminal before calling them to pick you up from there. It made it seem like they'd pick you up from the car rental area outside of the airport and not the car rental terminal. This meant that we got to them after 8pm, but luckily we had been in contact and could still pick the car up.

The rep I spoke with that evening said that I could get my vehicle the next morning; when I called to confirm the address, I was told that my reservation had expired and there were no longer any vehicles available. I am still trying to be refunded for my downpayment. Overall, a very bad experience and was misinformed throughout the process.
