Routes Car & Truck Rentals at Chicago O’Hare Airport

Pros: Friendly, cooperative, efficient, easy to work with.

Cons: At the time, the only available vehicle type was a Jeep Wrangler, which I really did not want, but was stuck with.

Pros: The agents were doing the best they could, but the system of renting and returning was horrible and I'm sure many people missed their flights because of it.

Cons: The car looked like it had been in a collision, was dirty and greasy on the inside, service to pick it up was painfully slow, the shuttle from the airport took ONE HOUR to pick me up then nearly made me wait because I was traveling with a bicycle, the agency was VERY far from the airport... I could go on and on...

Pros: 1. The company requires you to purchase their liability insurance or present the policy number of your own liability insurance. This was not communicated to me in advance, nor was anyone else on line behind/ahead of me aware of this either. The lobby was filled with furious customers. 2. There seemed to be about 7 staff sitting around but only 1 staff serving a line of customers. There were only 4 people ahead of me but I still waited 25 minutes to be seen.

Cons: 3. The company does not let you go and pick up the car, they have to bring it out to you. I saw families waiting 20-30 minutes for the car to be brought out AFTER they waited in line. 4. Read the reviews of this company and you will see how many people feel scammed and cheated by them. 5. They seem to be the only car rental company you can't access by shuttle from the airport. I had to take a cab there. 6. DROP THEM from your search algorithm!!! P.S. I did NOT end up renting this car.

Cons: The Routes people were fine, but again, didn't make clear that I needed proof of insurance when I made my reservation. A real hassle. They also did not have the kind of car I had asked for.

Pros: They had the best price for my travel dates, without question. At the counter, they "upgraded" my vehicle for no apparent charge, but they didn't explain why. They were very efficient at shuttling passengers back to the airport after returning vehicles.

Cons: Overall, they were horribly inefficient. They told me it would take 15-20 minutes for a shuttle to pick us up at the airport; instead, it took about 50 minutes and several phone calls. When I arrived at the rental hub, there were two people in front of me. But it still took me almost an hour - on top of the wait for the shuttle - to get to the counter! The staff seemed to be struggling with instructions and procedures set down by incompetent management.

Cons: When we returned the car, the service rep was completely obnoxious. Also, it took way too long to return the car. Other car rental agencies are much more efficient.

My wife and I were almost in tears and not even an apology was given. I will make sure I tell everyone about the bad experience we had with your firm.

When being dropped off at the airport we were brought to arrivals not departure. People had to carry their luggage across 2 traffic lanes then up another floor. Driver said he was too busy. Pros: They asked for a 500 dollar deposit and the online registration did not note this at all. I did not get the car due to this and have not received my deposit back.

Cons: I contacted the rental car place an hour ahead of time, they stated they were overbooked and I would have to wait until people return the cars to get one. After waiting an hour and a half in line I was told that there was not a car to accommodate us due to the number of people with me (but I booked for the number of people) although the worker upgraded the one guy ahead of me to a car that would have. So it seemed I had no other options so I agreed to take the smaller and uncomfortable car.

Cons: I reserved a compact car, and they ran out, so the smallest car they could provide me with was a Jeep. And it only had 1/4 tank of gas. I ended up spending almost $300 in gasoline because of this. What's the point of reserving a car in advance if they're going to give them all away?

Cons: Everything. From arriving at the airport, there were no vehicles available for an 8 AM reservation. I expected to be in and out, but when I arrived there were no cars available and a backlog of people waiting for returned vehicles. I had a confirmation number and deposit put on the vehicle, to learn that there was 1 jeep available with a broken window and AC provided to the gentleman in front of me. Upon approach to the facility I was ignored by staff. By 12:00 PM - still no vehicles available.

Cons: They did not have the car that I rented online. They upgraded me from Toyota corolla sedan to a Jeep Wrangler. The gas was not efficient.

The staff was not very flexible on providing the suv type that was requested and provided only Jeep Wrangler, the trip was not comfortable for us or the baby because the car ceiling would get very hot and the baby’s car seat was almost hitting the ceiling. Jeep Wrangler does fall in the suv category but it is much smaller than the SUV type I booked like the Nissan Rogue or the Toyota RAV 4. Plus, it is much more rigid and less economical to drive a Jeep.

I asked if we could book with someone else and be reimbursed for the price difference, to which they said no. You need to realize that not everybody in today's day and age have a credit card registered to them, nor do they want a credit card. There must be another option for those of us who build our credit without having an actual credit card.. Until then, your credit card single option for payment will not work for me.

They would not rent the luxury vehicle to us to do not having an insurance policy with us and because the $1000 deposit was ridiculous. We waited for over an hour waiting for the incompetent rental agents to hide in the back and not tell us what to expect. We ended up having to rent from another agent last minute due to the companies mistake and ignorant employees. I’m beyond frustrated.

Cons: I didn't like that I had to wait 50 minutes to be picked up by the shuttle, I didn't like that I waited over an hour and a half to get checked into my car, I didn't like that I was given a Jeep Wrangler when I paid for a Jeep Cherokee, I didn't like that when I called our shuttle driver "Sir" I was told "MY NAME IS LAWRENCE AND YOU WILL ADDRESS ME BY MY NAME!" When I told him Sir is a term of respect Lawrence yelled "I'M NOT YOUR SLAVE!" Multiple times...Talk about uncomfortable!

Pros: Once we got to the terminal, the service was friendly and all went smoothly.

Cons: No complaints, everyone was nice and friendly... when there was an issue the senior member helped clear it up instantly

Pros: Nothing!! We never rent from this company again and we travel into the country and rent cars 4-5 times a year! Not that this will be looked at and not that anyone from this company cares!

Cons: As stated above it was not what we rented. It also rides like a lumber wagon and is very very difficult to get in and out of for someone under 5ft like myself. The last straw was we put my grand daughters car seat in the back, with her in it, when we stopped the seatbelt did not latch and she feel forward in her car seat. I was very angry that this vehicle endangered my grand daughters life!!! I will NEVER rent from this company again. There were several other issues but again run out of space

Cons: Service was very slow at check-in. Extra day charge for car just for 3 hours use is not acceptable.

Cons: Took a long time to get serviced late at night when I just wanted to get on my way. Charged me $500 to my card for the reservation which seemed unnecessary.

Cons: returning the staff was slim.... but not a problem.

Cons: Every aspect of the customer service. I have NEVER experienced such horrible customer service in my life. The shuttle is the worst system ever, missed us more than once even though I, my friend, and another customer were all in the RIGHT place and looking out for the shuttle. When I called I could not get the customer reps to give me an exact ETA so that I could be sure to not "miss it", I was hung up on instead of given an answer. After 40 min, I got an Uber to the rental location.

Cons: Would not rent locally. I have the agreement paperwork which says if you're local, bring proof of residency - such as a utility bill. Charged deposit even though they refused to rent to me.

Pros: Even though my vehicle was covered in pet hair, it was an overall nice vehicle to drive.

Cons: Dirty inside of vehicle, extreme long wait to turn in keys, poor customer service. The driver of van packed it completely full and made everyone carry their luggage on their lap as he didn't want to deal with loading them in the back!....

Pros: The car was clean.

Cons: The car wasn't my original choice. A car with windows you can roll down and you don't have vertically jump to get in to would have been preferred over a jeep. However, we weren't given any choice. Additionally, the return service experience was awful. Customer service reps were impatient with customers waiting over 20 min to get taken to the airport, and the driver who dropped us off at the terminal almost hit two cars and drove like a lunatic. We will never use Routes again.

Pros: nice car

Cons: another company that refuses valid insurance cover in order to upsell their own exorbitant insurance. Old trick, had enough. Discover should not promote these people who quote 'all inclusive' prices, but have hidden adders.

Pros: The service representatives where polite and professional.

Cons: In the booking process needs to be much cleared about the limitation of renting to local residents.

Pros: The people were overall nice, but at the whim of bad policies and did not have the control to resolve situations themselves.

Cons: Didn't receive a confirmation from Routes or DiscoverCarHire. Took over 30 minutes to arrive (blamed weather, but snow was not sticking, and this is Chicago afterall). Once arrived and with 6 passenger in the van, when we were at the entrance to Mannheim Road, the driver got a call to go back to Terminal 5E at the airport and he actually did a U turn right before Routes to go back to the airport. Ridiculous add-on fees and insurance policy. Paperwork and a long wait to depart to airport on retur

Pros: Efficient, friendly, helpful. Would absolutely rent from Routes again.

Cons: I would rent from them again.

Cons: It took over 45 minutes ti return the car and wait for the shuttle to the airport.

Pros: Was a very nice car and ran very well. Had good amenities. However, there was a problem with the speedometer as it stuck at 64mph.

Cons: It was very busy, congested with the reps a bit stressed. I also think the rep was not honest in that she really pushed me to get a toll pass for an extra $9 per day, saying it would end up paying off, but that would have been much more expensive than the tolls I ended up paying in IL.

Cons: The agent spoke way too fast. You guys are putting a $500 hold on someone’s CC and she’s just saying it like it’s routine. I felt she was just scripted and wanted to speed through everything. While I get moving through the process her words should be concise and clear.

Pros: I was able to drive a nice car for a very good price. All staff were very friendly, helpful and competent.

Cons: It took a long time to pick up the car.

Cons: I was forced to buy the Liability Insurance and did not even inform by the employee. I understand that this is optional but I was rejected by the employee when I requested to cancel the liability insurance.
