Royal Rentals at Crete Airport Heraklion

Pros: Dreadful - could not take the car with out deposit of 'Credit card or Cash' I only do Debit card. Had to spend £200 more elsewhere on the day.

Cons: Scam. Refused Amex, refused mastercard debit and visa debit on the basis that they can not take a deposit and have it refunded a week later without incurring tax. Increased priced by €150 forcing us to take their insurance and forcing us to leave €200 cash deposit. Refused petrol level on return. Obnoxious, rude and aweful. In addition car was terrible. Wheel was torn, car had no acceleration. Terrible experience and stressful way to staet a holiday.

Pros: They would not accept my AMEX card as a a warranty and then when I offered to pay cash, as my contract allowed, they said they can't keep 900 euros from me so I had to buy some bullshit insurance which raised the price of the car to about 65 euros a day.

Cons: On the site the vehicle was published as luxuary van VW transporter. In reality it was a basic FIAT, but the car did what it needed to do. Some small things but the car had already 120000 km driven on the Cretian roads, so it is normal that there were some small defects (trembling of the windows, ...)

Pros: Really liked the lady at the car rental Maria. She was very friendly, funny and most importantly very efficient and competent. The overall experience was pleasant

Cons: The car’s body was a bit dinged up. The glovebox was broken and it almost became an issue with the rental company upon return. Fortunately, I took a video of the inside and was able to show I didn’t break it.

Cons: They gave me a 10 year old piece of junk that had a loud engine and faulty aircon. My replacement car was the same model maybe a few years newer but still a piece of junk that should have been scrapped.

Cons: Was difficult to find the first time in Heraklion. There are exits on 2 sides of the building so the directions to just “go straight” out of the door didn’t make any sense. I wandered around for awhile.

Cons: They asked us to not make the car “too dirty”. The car was in very poor condition. The money for the deposit is still reserved over one week after the return.

Cons: At first we had a problem with a credit/debit card. We had to change the main driver and additional driver for 60€. Than they gave us two small cars in a bad condition - the AC wasn't working, doors couldn't be open properly, it was dirty on the inside, child seat was dirty too.

Cons: It definitely wasn't a positive experience.When we brought the car back, the agent claimed we made a damage on the undercarriage. It was a really small spot and unfortunately from the video we made after taking the car you couldn't see if it was there or not. He valued that the damage would be 400 € (!!) but surprisingly enough he settled for the whole deposit (250€). Plus, during the trip the windscreen wiper broke, we bought a new one but we never got a refund.The whole thing felt like a scam

Cons: The Royal Car as a supplier gave us an old car. The side door was unstable. The seats were dirty. The pick up and drop off processes were rather unprofessionel. Main reason was the short staff.

Or verify all these informations first : 4x4 system is broken (only 2 rear wheels traction), passenger window blocked, no radio, cannot adjust ventilation, no windscreen washer, headlights faded, hood latch complicated... and seems to be a water coolant leak ! we went out of coolant and nearly broke the engine in the mountains... We paid 400€ for this car for 4days, , where is the value for money ??? CHECK THE CARS, DON'T TRUST

Cons: AC didn't work well but its probably bad luck. The manager's rude attitude when picking up the car. (The frontdesk lady was kind and helpful, but her manager was arrogant and rude towards us with no reason). The late drop off fee. Most of the other car rentals let you drop the keys in a mailbox but we had to wait for someone to review it on the spot, and this also has a charge.

Cons: The guy at the rental company sent me a whatsapp after signing the slip confirming the car was OK and whilst I was waiting to board my flight that I owed £744 for a damaged part of the car.

Unfortunately, I found out about this when I landed to Heraklion Airport in Crete at 22:30, having a pregnant wife travelling together with me. On that price list, a small scratch on a rental car is charged starting from 250 EUR and going up to several hundreds of euros!!! I've been driving a car for 20 years and fixing scratches including painting costs up to 10 times less!!

Cons: At pick up in Heraklion, we spent quite some time to assess the car condition, after the representative was stating that they are super strict with even smallest scratches (charging a minimum of 350 Euro). They also said that they have nothing to do with the insurance that we had with Discovercars, after offering their own insurance.

Cons: You need to review your suppliers. We turned up to 'royal rentals', where an argument was taking place with a customer. This delayed our check in and made our departure from the rental very late at night. We had booked a 5 door car, instead we got a 3 door car. We eventually got a 5 door car, which was on its last legs - bits had fallen off and there was damage all over the car. The picture of the car we were supposed to get in comparison to what we got, was very different!
