Thrifty
Also known by its full name, Thrifty Rent a Car, this company is part of the Hertz Corporation, which also owns Dollar Car Rental. Thrifty was established in 1958 and nowadays operates in 1,060 destinations across the planet. Its headquarters are in Estero, Florida (as is Hertz’s headquarters). Thrifty, as its name suggests, focuses on serving the budget leisure travel segment of the market.
Thrifty started as an independent private company and went public in 1987. It would later be acquired by Chrysler (who would also acquire Thrifty) before they were together spun off into an independent company again. Hertz would buy the company in 2012. In 2020, during the pandemic, Thrifty’s parent company Hertz filed for bankruptcy. It would emerge from bankruptcy in 2021 as the travel market rebounded.
Thrifty, as a well-recognized brand, is unsurprisingly highly rated by our customers. The company won our Excellent Car Rental Service Award in 43 different locations in 2024. In its home market of the US, it won for Seattle-Tacoma Airport in Washington and Kahului Airport in Hawaii. The company also won the award in locations in Australia, Canada, Greece, Jordan, Morocco, Norway, Spain, and the UAE.
