- Acropolis of Rhodes. Like the rest of Greece and the surrounding region, Rhodes has an impressive history and was home to some of the earliest civilizations. The Colossus of Rhodes, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, was destroyed in an earthquake, and a similar calamity a couple of centuries later also devastated the island’s Acropolis. But while the former was lost forever, the latter was excavated and restored in the 20th century. With its temples of Apollo and Athena and ancient nymphaeum, it is one of the most interesting places to visit on the island.
- Rhodes Old Town. The oldest part of Rhodes Town, the main settlement of the island, is another historic gem. Surrounded by impressive outer walls that are themselves a world heritage site, the old town is also home to the Palace of the Grand Master of the Knights of Rhodes, the Archbishop’s Palace, the Suleymaniye Mosque, and a number of museums. Another interesting place to visit in Rhodes Town is La Juderia, the town’s old Jewish Quarter with its beautiful Kahal Shalom synagogue.
- Gennadi. Located on the southeastern coast of Rhodes, Gennadi is a lovely village famous for its natural beauty. From relaxed, pristine beaches to busy bars and nightlife, it has something for every traveller. Gennadi is also one of the island’s main hubs of surfing and other water sports. Travel further south along the coast or inland and you’ll reach some of the least-explored parts of the island.

Rhodes is a beautiful island and hiring a car meant we could see what we wanted of it hassle free. The views from the mountain roads are outstanding and there are some gorgeous, quiet little beaches. Rhodes Town is full of history and the acropolis/amphitheatre up on the hill is a must see. We also loved Filerimos monastery and views from there are amazing, as well as the wildlife. Kamiros and the Valley of the Butterflies is also a must see.

We stayed in pefkos a small village about 4 km from Lindos which had a nice sandy beach. Lindos has a much bigger sandy beach with sun bed hire ranging from 15 to 40 euros plus restaurant. Lardos is a lovely quiet village with an Italian restaurant where food was superb and Roulas family restaurant for the best meals with proper fresh vegetables. Rhodes town with cobbled streets and acropolis but very busy. There are lots of nice beaches to find but most of the quiet ones do not have sunbeds or restaurant so go prepared. Agathi is beautiful beach follow signs for charaki beach. Make good use of the car but be warned it cost 88 euros to fill our VW golf up and it wasn’t completely empty

The Passat we got from Dirent a cars was a pleasure to drive and I really liked the fact it wasn't covered in Rent-A-Car stickers. It was a lot bigger than most of the other rental cars and that made all the difference when transferring all our luggage from and to the airport.
