Goldcar at Lanzarote Airport

Pros: Very quick and efficient at the desk and Discover cars were very helpful in helping me give the details of my driving license and passport to the car hire company

Cons: Because our flight was late and picked up the car at 10.03 pm they charged us an excess of 40 Euros as they were supposed to shut at 10 pm. Three minutes late!

Pros: It wasn’t the car I booked. The oil warning light was on.

Cons: Would have rated higher but drop off was stressful because there were no spaces in the car park and no one around to hand keys to. Went into terminal building but queue was huge. Nearly missed flight trying to return keys

Cons: Overall it was perfect but I was charged at the end 34 Euros because the car was not "cleaned". I didn't know I had to clean the car before returning it

Pros: Engine management light came on and went into limp mode - reset it by turning ignition on and off but occasionally it also felt as if the clutch had gone so had to double de clutch to activate until it sorted itself

Cons: Poor explanation of where to pick up the car & more importantly the drop off, no signage on airport approach like there was prior to moving from the top car park to the lower level, I had to go through the car park twice resulting in a very small charge before being directed by a TUI rep how to get to the lower level.

Cons: Took out upgraded full insurance cover, but was still asked to upgrade further on car collection. When dropping car off I asked if they were going to check on condition but said no need as I had full upgraded insurance.

Cons: We were told we had to wait an hour or so for a small car but in the event ended with a bigger one. Attitude of our first encounter with staff was not as good as it should have been!

Cons: The internet booking platform making us get additional insurance which wasn’t any good. Not really gold cars fault.

Cons: Length of time to refund credit card block for fuel and excess cover. Car was badly scratched all over meaning that it would be hard to tell if it had been further scratched whilst on our hire. I'd like to know why the rental companies, having presumably charged an excess for the cosmetic damage, never seem to repair it.
