Olbia is a smaller airport on the Italian island of Sardinia. The airport (and the city's port) is a popular entry point to the island for many Europeans including Brits. Olbia, while a nice city, is not the end destination for most passengers; instead, most head toward the beaches and other parts of the island. It's, therefore, no surprise that almost all arriving passengers end up hiring a car. 

Tolls: There are currently no toll roads on Sardinia. However, there are ZTL zones in the centre of the islands largest cities, and it is forbidden to enter these zones unless authorized (like a being a resident of a building in the zone). Make sure to avoid entering these zones to avoid any fines that the hire company will definitely pass on to you. 

Taking a hire car to the mainland: Most hire companies at Catania Airport allow their cars to be taken between Sardinia and mainland Italy. Usually, travellers make this a one-way trip (that is, not returning to Sardinia or not returning to the mainland). There is an additional fee for this, though it is not large percentage-wise if hiring a car for a week or more. You can search for the location where you would like to drop off the car and the extra fee will be included in the total prices. 

One-way rental between Sicily and Sardinia may not be available by the specific hire company you choose. And if they are, the fee is significantly higher than travelling to the mainland.

Olbia Airport is a small airport with just one terminal and five gates.

Location

Olbia Airport is only a few kilometres south of the city centre of Olbia. The city is small, though, so it is very easy to get to the resort areas north of it from the airport.

Car hire desks

Most car hire desks are located in the car rental centre which about 50 metres from outside the arrivals terminal. B-rent and Goldcar have desks located directly outside the terminal on the way to the car rental centre. A few hire companies, like Ecovia, Centauro, and Optimo Rent, are located off-airport and provide free shuttles for their customers.

Services and facilities

Small and cosy, Olbia Airport offers duty-free stores, gift shops with local goods, several cafés, a full-service restaurant, and a wine bar where you can try local Sardinian wines. There are also cashpoints, a first aid centre, a baby changing room, and a left luggage service which is located in the car park.

Nearest petrol station

If approaching the airport from the city centre, there is an Esso petrol station that you will pass on the way to the airport. If approaching from the north along the ring-road or from the south, then a Q8 station just off the roundabout
