Although best known for its beautiful seacoast, Albufeira has been inhabited since prehistory, a fascinating heritage that is honoured in the Municipal Archaeological Museum. The 12th century Almoada Castle (sometimes called the Castle of Paderne) is also worth a visit.

Stay mainly around the Portimao and Alvor areas. Loved the beach restaurants and viewing the sunsets. There are lots of great things to do in the Algarve, visiting Zoo Marine, exploring Monchique mountains, highly recommend a boat ride to the caves. Visit the monthly flea markets, shopping, experiencing the various festivals I.e sardine festival in Portimao and the medieval / pork festival in Alvor.

We had a relaxing time at Cabanas and Tavira. We liked the Little India and O Tonel Restaurants in Tavira. The apartment at Cabanas was great but the only good thing about the one in Tavira was the location - it was in need of modernistaion and refurbishment.
